People’s Climate March – Sunday, September 21
Maybe we should remind ourselves the planet can survive without us. We cannot say the same for ourselves. We are very seriously affecting the systems on this earth which afford us life on this planet. Next week world leaders are coming to the UN Global Summit to discuss measures to deal with climate change. But we people know we can’t wait. We can’t do it alone. The governments must help us. Millions of people throughout the world are going to participate in the People’s Climate March on Sunday. KEYA CHATTERJEE, Senior Director for Renewable Energy and Footprint Outreach at the World Wildlife Fund will remind us “It is not just about polar bears, Baby.” She is also the author of The Zero Footprint Baby.
Many of the marchers, particularly in New York City and throughout the U.S., are not only concerned about the grave climate to our survival, but the peculiar paradox that so much of the money, energy and attention of this country is devoted to security. Our leaders proclaim al-quaeda and now ISIS as major threats to our security, when the biggest threat to our security and survival is a known – climate change – air, water, food, the subways of New York City flooded with salt water. Hello, out there….. MIRIAM PEMBERTON, Director, Peace Economy Transitions Project, Institute for Policy Studies, editor of a major report, “Military vs Climate Security” and co-author of Lessons from Iraq: Avoiding the Next War. She will discuss the major threat that militarism and war is to the environment and everyone.
