The Florida Senate will begin a special legislative session at 10 a.m. Nov. 6 and could finish the session as early as Nov. 8, according to a tentative schedule posted on the Senate website.

Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, R-Naples, and House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, issued a proclamation late Friday afternoon for the special session, which will address a series of issues, including bolstering state sanctions against Iran and providing additional assistance to people recovering from Hurricane Idalia.

Among other things, the proclamation calls for taking steps to increase the number of students with disabilities served in a school voucher program known as the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities.

Lawmakers had been scheduled during the week of Nov. 6 to hold committee meetings to prepare for the 2024 regular session, which will start in January.

The Senate schedule indicated committees will continue to meet during the week, though detailed agendas had not been published.

A tentative House schedule for the week had not been posted as of Monday morning.
