Tampa International Airport expects more direct flights to Cuba after thaw in relations

Last month the presidents of Cuba and the United States announced they would take steps to thaw the icy relations between the two countries.

The U.S. still has an embargo and a ban on tourism to Cuba, but it is likely to become easier for permitted travel from the U.S. to Cuba.

For more than three years there have been direct flights from Tampa International Airport to cities in Cuba.

To find out what the new policy could mean for travelers and for the airport, WMNF News interviewed Chris Minner, the airport’s vice president of marketing.
