CeCe Teneal and Soul Kamotion

WMNF’s tributes to Aretha Franklin in late October were among the most outstanding WMNF events in our history, with an excellent band backing truly outstanding vocalists who successfuully met the challenge of singing Aretha’s music.  Both nights of extraordinary music, the show-stopping artist  was a singer from Orlando named CeCe Teneal.  Each time she came out to sing, CeCe worked the stage with sass and charm and her voice evoked Aretha’s soul and range and voice timbre.   We decided we need to see more Ce Ce Teneal and the outstanding band that she normally performs with and have confirmed her band to play our series at The Attic in Ybor City, an intimate listening venue. We will hear her original music plus some tasty covers and of course, a few Aretha songs.

CeCe Teneal & Soul Kamotion‘s blend of blues, soul and roots music uplifts and inspires audiences with messages of hope, love and the belief that anything possible. They pride themselves on providing incredible live music experiences that transcend cultural and generational barriers.

These funky musicians include the smooth and passionate Chris Baptiste (Keys & MD); the creative and innovative Terrell Kimble (Bass), the ever-so-rhythmic James Adkins (drums), and the multi-talented Lavon Rushing (Guitar). They have one gear – high energy. Lead singer, CeCe Teneal is an award-winning, undeniable talent who both critics and fans call “a musical force to be reckoned with,” and her achievements in the industry over the past decade are certainly a testament to that view.

The band’s new live album, “#5or5000”, is energetic and entertaining,  funky and fun, addressing all stages of love and living our true life. It’s enchanting yet powerful, encouraging us to move and groove on the dance floor and to embrace life. It’s faith-filled, purposeful and reflective when reminding us to appreciate our blessings, not take love for granted, and why we sometimes feel alone even when we’re in a relationship. It’s sassy and authentic when talking about the dangers of love, conquering each day and doing your own thing.

Ari Chi   –  Ari has played several WMNF shows and after her sets she always has fans crowding the stage wanting to know her.  The St. Petersburg resident is a singer, writer and ukulele player whose music ranges from folk, soul, rap and indie making it easy for almost everyone to enjoy.
