A great new venue: The Attic in Ybor City.
Four great singer songwriters share their music and stories. Matt Burke (Have Gun Will Travel), Rebekah Pulley, Kristopher James and Shevonne Philidor. Come early for happy hour at Rock Brothers Brewery. Advance sales have ended, $15 at door, opening at 7pm.
Matt Burke is the singer-songwriter who leads longtime WMNF favorite band HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL. His outstanding songwriting is sometimes overlooked in the sweeping accolades for his band. Burke writes songs with a natural instinct for combining folk, pop, rock and classic country styles. He often peppers songs with historic references and HGWT’s most recent album “Science from an Easy Chair” reflects Burke’s personal interest in history, an album based entirely on British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his 1914-16 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, an amazing story of survival and endurance. This show at The Attic is a chance for you to experience and focus on Matt Burke as a truly accomplished songwriter.
Rebekah Pulley is a St. Petersburg based singer-songwriter and performer whose sultry, seasoned voice has been described as jaw dropping, with a tendency to break your heart and shake your soul. Her songwriting, live performances, and recordings have wryly evolved, tapping roots-rock, blues, old-school country & western, jazz, and even gospel earning her seven ‘Best Of The Bay’ awards from Tampa Bay’s Creative Loafing. Her original songs are potent shots of reality, sugar coated with great melodies. Rebekah was raised in a musical household on wheels (aka: Winnebago) with her nine siblings throughout rural Alaska, East Texas, and Washington State. A self taught guitarist, she gained an ear for music by listening to her father play his rockabilly style guitar with country greats such as Charlie Ryan with whom he recorded the original version of Hot Rod Lincoln. Rebekah’s latest release, “Tralala”, was the most played CD on WMNF the year of its release and is a must have for even the most discerning Americana, Alt-Country, and Folk music fans.
Kristopher James – Bradenton’s alt-folk troubadour Kristopher James channels the balanced line of life, love, doubts and hopes into “captivating music loaded with soft, acoustic guitar tunes and stunning vocals. He commands the audiences attention and captivate them with fluctuating emotions and crafted songs and one of the best voices you will ever hear.
