Songs From The Attic

A great new venue:    The Attic in Ybor City.

Four great singer songwriters share their music and stories. Matt Burke (Have Gun Will Travel), Rebekah Pulley, Kristopher James and Shevonne Philidor. Come early for happy hour at Rock Brothers Brewery.  Advance sales have ended, $15 at door, opening at 7pm.

Matt Burke  is the singer-songwriter who leads longtime WMNF favorite band HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL.   His outstanding songwriting is sometimes overlooked in the sweeping accolades for his band.  Burke writes songs with a natural instinct for combining folk, pop, rock and classic country styles.  He often peppers songs with historic references and HGWT’s most recent album “Science from an Easy Chair” reflects Burke’s personal  interest in history, an album based entirely on British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his 1914-16 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, an amazing story of survival and endurance.  This show at The  Attic is a chance for you to experience and focus on Matt Burke as a truly accomplished songwriter.

Rebekah Pulley is a St. Petersburg based singer-songwriter and performer whose sultry, seasoned voice has been described as jaw dropping, with a tendency to break your heart and shake your soul. Her songwriting, live performances, and recordings have wryly evolved, tapping roots-rock, blues, old-school country & western, jazz, and even gospel earning her seven ‘Best Of The Bay’ awards from Tampa Bay’s Creative Loafing. Her original songs are potent shots of reality, sugar coated with great melodies. Rebekah was raised in a musical household on wheels (aka: Winnebago) with her nine siblings throughout rural Alaska, East Texas, and Washington State. A self taught guitarist, she gained an ear for music by listening to her father play his rockabilly style guitar with country greats such as Charlie Ryan with whom he recorded the original version of Hot Rod Lincoln. Rebekah’s latest release, “Tralala”, was the most played CD on WMNF the year of its release and is a must have for even the most discerning Americana, Alt-Country, and Folk music fans.

Kristopher James  –  Bradenton’s alt-folk troubadour Kristopher James channels the balanced line of life, love, doubts and hopes into “captivating music loaded with soft, acoustic guitar tunes and stunning vocals.  He commands the audiences attention and captivate them with fluctuating emotions and crafted songs and one of the best voices you will ever hear.

Shevonne Marie Philidor-  Also known as Shevizzle, she is a singer-songwriter, musician, producer, model, actress, and visual artist. She is a young entertainer who is utilizing every possible platform to amaze audiences with her one-of-a-kind voice and compositions. With a lively stage presence, she keeps admirers captivated by her unique spirit and exciting energy. Her funky Bohemian style reveals a vast imagination and evokes a steampunk Goth 90’s kid that fans can relate to. She first started performing in talent shows and various singing competitions as a child. Once Shevonne became a Tampa resident she joined Entertainment Review and was an active member for 9 years. At the age of 17 she picked up a Fender acoustic guitar and taught herself how to play it by observing and listening. Although she has experimented with the bass guitar, keys, and drums over the years, her main passion has proven to be the electric guitar.  She won the NFAA National Scholarship in musical theatre and left high school early to travel on the National Tour of Oz the Musical. During that time Shevonne had begun to write and compose her own music. In 2003 she appeared in America’s Most Talented Kids, she was featured as a wildcard in America’s Got Talent in 2010, and in 2016 she made it to the top 51 in American Idol. Her first self-titled album, “Shevizzle” was released in 2016 and features all original songs with sounds ranging from pop, reggae, funk-rock to soul, and blues. Shevonne is not only a self-taught musician, she has been interested in visual arts from a young age, and created the album artwork for Shevizzle. Specializing in cartoons, her surreal drawings have a nightmarish, yet playful quality that serves as a window into her unusual and fascinating mind.
