USF New Tampa Jazz Series Presents: Saxophonist Jack Wilkins “Acadian Rhythms” CD Release Concert
An evening of jazz premiere performances is in store, when USF’s Jack Wilkins debuts music from “Acadian Rhythms,” in the USF New Tampa Jazz Series on Thursday, April 4, at 8 p.m. The series is produced by the USF School of Music and Tampa Jazz Club at the New Tampa Performing Arts Center, now in its inaugural season. Wilkins, the saxophonist/composer and longtime Director of Jazz Studies at USF, will be joined by a who’s who of Florida artists and special guests for this cd-release concert.
In 2022, Jack Wilkins was named Artist-in-Residence at Acadia National Park in Maine. Immersing himself in the area’s natural beauty and local history, he found inspiration for new musical ideas. The result is an album of pieces that tell the stories he found, and paint pictures of scenes few of us experience.
For this occasion, Wilkins is joined by trumpeter James Suggs, saxophonists Tami Danielsson and Daniel Jordan, guitarist LaRue Nickelson, pianist Per Danielsson and bassist Doug Matthews. Special guests are Jack’s longtime colleagues, pianist Steve Allee, and drummer Danny Gottlieb.
“Acadian Rhythms” follows in a tradition Wilkins has established, reflecting particular experiences and places in his recordings (Appalachia, in The Blue & Green Project, as well as The Banff Project, and the earlier Dear Old Stockholm).
Location: New Tampa Performing Arts Center, 8550 Hunters Village Rd, Tampa, 33647
