Today in Geneva, Switzerland, representatives of the United States, Britain, China, France, Russia, and Germany met with Iranian officials about the Islamic Republic’s nuclear ambitions.

Following the meeting, President Barack Obama said that Iran has two weeks to permit international officials inspect a nuclear plant that was revealed last week.

At least three strong earthquakes that have hit the western Pacific since yesterday have killed more than 1,100 people in Indonesia. That’s according to figures from United Nations humanitarian chief John Holmes. Thousands more are believed to be trapped in the rubble.

More than 150 people have died the Pacific islands of the Samoas, but as searches continue, that figure is expected to rise. Four tsunami waves of 15 to 20 feet hit the islands following a magnitude 8 quake earlier this week...

Wednesday night at Café Bohemia , St Petersbug, the anti-war group St Pete for Peace hosted a forum crusading to keep the sidewalk near Baywalk public.

St Pete Mayoral candidate Kathleen Ford was invited; she also opposes the sidewalk privatization.

Tampa has a new Police Chief. Chief Jane Castor was sworn in this afternoon after being unanimously approved this morning by the Tampa City Council.

Castor is the city’s first woman and its first openly lesbian police chief. She served as the Tampa Police Department’s liaison to the gay and lesbian community.
