Tomorrow it will be one year since an appeals court in Atlanta threw out the convictions of a group of men known as the Cuban Five. In 1998 they were charged with espionage and conspiracy to commit murder, among other things. Today they are still in US prisons and an advocacy group renewed calls for their release.

Jewish supporters of Tampa Congressman Jim Davis spoke before reporters today to rebuff a sugar industry-funded political group that helped pay for fliers attacking him for missing a vote supporting Israel.
Yesterday (Monday) in South Florida â€“ home to a large percentage of Jewish voters â€“ local households received a mail piece entitled, â€œ"Jim Davis Fails to Condemn Attacks Against Israel."

Last night in Naples, GOP Senate candidate Will McBride went after Katherine Harris, demanding that she write an apology to him and to all Latino voters in Florida for letting someone in her campaign ask a question at a candidates forum about his ethnicity last week.
Last Friday in North Reddington Beach, during the Q&A portion of the Forum of the Senate candidates, a supporter of Harris named Jackie Brownhill accused McBride of changing his name from Rodriguez to McBride.

A group pushing a proposal to create an elected County Mayor position in Hillsborough County failed today to collect enough valid signatures on its petitions, meaning it will NOT be on this Novemberâ€™s ballot.
The Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections, Buddy Johnson announced today that The group Taking Back Taking Back Hillsborough Political Committee fell 3,034 valid signatures short of the required 37,202 to put the question on the November ballot.

Hillsborough County Commission candidate Joe Redner says he wants to move on after having a chair thrown at him on a cable access program over the weekend.
