The Pinellas County School Board met Tuesday night at the Administration building. After the meeting, there was a public hearing to discuss the budget and millage decisions.

Dr. Doug Forth, of the Pinellas County Schools budget department, explained the proposed millage rates. This rate would increase from $8.06 to $8.35 per $1,000 of taxable property value. Many who spoke mentioned the fact that the state legislature should be in charge of this funding.

Pinellas County beaches barely get a passing grade in a new report on the quality of America’s beaches released today.

The Natural Resources Defense Council says that Florida ranks 9th in the nation, but that’s not much different than a year ago.

Nancy Stoner is the co-director of the NRDC’s Water Program, and author of the report, called, “Testing the Waters 2009”

A bait shop owner in Clearwater who sued the city over his fish mural has reached an agreement that will pay him $55,000.

Herb Quintero owns The Complete Angler, located on North Fort Harrison Avenue. Shortly after opening the establishment early last year, he commissioned a mural depicting various fish on the side of his building.

Tampa Bay residents will soon be able to wash their cars in their driveways and pressure-clean their own homes beginning this weekend.

Citizens in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties had been prevented from doing so ever since The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Governing Board, also known as SwiftMud, called for Phase 4, or critical restrictions because of the ongoing water shortage.
