The man who led the fight for a downtown Tampa public library that now bears his name has died at the age of 92; his law firm says John F. Germany died Wednesday morning.

WMNF News’ Seán Kinane spoke with the director of services for the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, Andrew Breidenbaugh, about what Germany meant for the library.

In other library news, the public library in East Tampa is expanding. The Hillsborough County Commission has approved $3.4 million to nearly triple the size of the C. Blythe Andrews, Jr. public library on E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

Breidenbaugh says there’s a public meeting at the library Wednesday evening to get feedback from residents on what they want from the new library.

The public meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at 2607 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
