Hot Box ~ New Music on WMNF

Share

Each week the Hot Box at WMNF gets updated. It is literally a box full of cds that the music department want to highlight. Most of the cds are new releases- some haven’t even been released yet. A few go in and a few go out. Here are this week’s additions.

Hard Working Americans  –  Rest in Chaos  –   Todd Snider leads an all-star band of jam band refugees through hard scrabble music about wasted lives of drugs, alcohol and mistakes.

Sarah Jarosz  – Undercurrent  –  Now 25 and already into her fourth album, the Texas singer-songwriter-musician puts out consistently “classy modern Americana” music.  Good chance she will be here in early fall.

Michael Franti & Spearhead  – Soulrocker   –  No longer the overt protest rapper-singer  (he swore off negative songs and affirmed only positive messages after nearly dying from a burst appendix); this continues his recent albums filled with messages of peace and love  (which have raised his popularity more than his protest songs).   Good WMNF values..

Fitz and the Tantrums  – Fitz and the Tantrums   –   The indy-pop-soul band is back with their third album.  An excellent live band, they are coming to Jannus Live this fall….
