Teens, Mental Health & Self-Love, Part 1

Share

Beginning with the importance of mental health and self-love for young people, Dr. Fred Harvey and Jelani Nichols discussed the resources available on the Motivating the Teens Spirit website. With 8.7% of kids diagnosed with ADHD, 7.8% with anxiety, 7% with behavioral disorders, and 3.4% with depression according to the CDC, adolescent mental health is a huge issue. Motivating the Teen Spirit focuses on giving teens tools to help them through difficult times, rather than telling them they are wrong or broken. The camp focuses on activities such as kayaking, archery, trust falls, and hiking, as well as teaching teens emotional intelligence, decision making skills, communication, and connection with others.
