What are your favorite holiday films for this time of year?

On the second half of the Radioactivity call-in program on 12?24 I asked listeners for recommendations for holiday films with a social conscience. I started the segment playing some sound from IT"S A WONDERFUL LIFE, a film with a strong progressive point of view: pro-low and middle income people; anti-corporate takeover,; pro affordable housing; pro putting the needs of the community above special interests: pro-family (in the best sense of those words); etc.

Listeners recommended the following films as their holiday favorites: -PRANCER w/Sam Elliott -ELF w/Will Farrell -KING OF HEARTS w/Alan Bates, Catherine Deneuve -SCROOGED w/ Bill Murray -FIDDLER ON THE ROOF -MEET JOHN DOE w/Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck -MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS w/ Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy -LARCENY INCORPORATED w/Edward G. Robinson, Anthony Quinn, Donna Reed -MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET w/Natalie Wood, Edmond Gwenn

Favorite Holiday Film (of 2010?)?

iHope "my" favorite Holiday Film of 2010 will be: The Dark Side...Christ-+-mass Synopsis: An undercover elf name Vicki, playing the part of a universally beloved, tremendously magnanimous, and worldly famous community radio station manager for WMNF.org 88.5FM in Tampa, is seen passing away (on a hospital bed(?))...only to be transported via An Apparition of Rudolph thru a hole in her pocket to Cloud Nine (containing Santa's Sleigh) where other elves await with The Ghost of Salvador 'Santa' Dali in order to take her up into outer space where Santa's Workshop REALLY can be found at 'The REAL 'North' Pole'...located on: The Dark Side of The Moon. After a fantabulous home-warming party hosted by The Ghost of Van Morison-elf (who has been in not-so-deep cover on Planet Earth, but makes a special trip with Roger Waters and Friends back to ElfMoon HomeSea (Elf Party Central), the other elves explain to Vicki that she has been in a 'Total-Recall' style of deep cover operation; an honorable identity bestowed only upon Santa's most trusted elves only in times of great need. The elves explain to her that it will take some time for her to regain her full memory, but since they are in dire need of her services, they provide her with some basic info about Santa's Workshop so she can start helping them ASAP: First: There is no 'Santa' per se. There is a Father Christ-+-mass, which is played by the part of God, but when it comes time to deliver Xmas presents every year, each individual elf magically transforms into a Ghost-Santa with their own Ghost-sleigh and Apparition-Reindeer in order to pay their visits to their specially annointed human beings each year. Second: They do not deliver 'presents' per se. Instead, they deliver "good thoughts" every Christmas eve (the only night they can actually visit Earth) that they hope and pray will last through-+-out the year... Third: They spend much of the rest of their time througout the year observ-+-ing their chosen people via huge telescopes from the portholes of Santa's Workshop, located out of sight on...The Dark Side of The Moon. Finally: The other elves explain to Vicki that, while she has been successful in her undercover 'should she chose to accept it' operation, there is now a much greater operation under way to battle perhaps what is the greatest threat ever to The Sea of Generosity (aka Santa's Workshop) and The Earth itself: The looming threat of a Climatastrophe brought about by Global Warming. It turns out that, if this threat is not averted, the interplay between the moon and the tidings of The Earth could result in a 'wobbbbbble' effect of great anti-comfort and anti-joy and quite possibly anti-life on Earth as we know it. The film is about just how she and her elves go about trying todo that (to be continued...

Marley & Me

Finally a movie without shootings, explosions, murders, car chases and mayhem - Marley and Me is the best. We can see the cycle of life and how animals such as people and dogs go through it. One of the Marleys in the movie is a local boy, rescued from the shelter and his guardians are members of Labrador Rescue. Way to go, Marley!

After the commercial ones, The Bishop's Wife with Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven is the best! Thanks.
