The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society's next monthly meeting is Tuesday, November 13th at 7:00 PM, We'll hear a talk about, “Bluebirds and Boxes: The Remarkable Recovery of the Bluebird Through Conservation Efforts of Individuals and the American Bluebird Societyâ€, presented by Mary Miller. The North American bluebirds are cavity nesters and their numbers seriously declined when the English house sparrow was introduced in 1851 and took over their nesting cavities. This presentation tells of the remarkable recovery of the bluebird through conservation efforts of individuals and the American Bluebird Society, which instituted the concept of bluebird trails. The Tampa Audubon Society maintains 50 bluebird boxes at Flatwoods Park along the 17-mile walking/biking/skating trail. This presentation shares the project's encouraging results. Meetings of the Chapter are open to the public, and all interested parties are invited to attend, and to bring questions about their yard.
