TWO COURT CASES MAY REDEFINE FLORIDA DEPS ROLE IN PROTECTING WATER-Andrew Stelzer

10/06/04

Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection has been found by a court to have been misleading the public in its efforts to protect the states rivers, lakes, and other bodies of waters. The conclusion of the lawsuit suit, which was filed by a coalition of environmental advocacy groups, has been followed by a new lawsuit filed yesterday, which calls on the federal environmental protection agency to take over responsibility for monitoring Florida’s waterways, because the state agency has done such a poor job. WMNF’s Andrew Stelzer spoke with David Bookbinder an attorney for the Sierra club, to find out what these two suits mean for cleaning up Florida’s water.
