DOCUMENTED WORKERS FACING DEPORTATION01/21/03
Our guest, Roger Calero, is a documented immigrant from Nicaraugua. He works as a reporter for the newspaper Perspectiva Mundial in New York City. On returning via Houston from a recent trip to Cuba and Mexico he was apprehended by the IRS. He is now facing deportation because of a marijuana conviction during the 1980s, while he was a high school student in California. Calero says this conviction was fully disclosed to the INS when he applied for workpapers. His treatment, he says, is the result of a nationwide crackdown on undocumented workers.
