KC Bowick running for State Legislature by Mitch E. Perry04/12/06
Florida’s House District 59 encompasses most of the city of Tampa. It’s been represented the last several years by Arthenia Joyner…..But she is moving on up, running for State Senator Les Miller’s seat….That leaves a vacuum – and so far, 4 Democrats and 1 Republican, are vying for that seat.
The Republican is Willis “ KC “ Bowick, who was a Democrat until he switched parties after his unsuccessful bid for the Hillsborough County Commission 2 years ago.
WMNF spoke to Bowick this morning….He has never held public office. We began by asking him about HIS thoughts on one of the most volatile issues affecting the local community in recent years, - the Jennifer Porter case, where the white former dance teacher received no jail time for her role in leaving the scene of a car accident, in which 2 young African American children died…(roll tape#1 o.q.thank you very much)
That’s K.C Bowick, so far the only Republican running for the Florida House in District 59, which essentially covers Tampa….
There are 4 Democrats in the race…Hakim Aquil, Warren Dawson, Tony LaColla and Betty Reed.
WMNF hopes to speak to all of those candidates before the Primary Election in September….
