UNION OF CONCERNED SCIENTISTS ANALYZES IRAN'S NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM

Stephen Young, Senior Analyst for the Union of Concerned Scientist's Global Security Program discussed how close Iran is to developing a single nuclear weapon (at least three years). He also talked about the technology needed to develop a weapon, the difficulty for them of building anything more than an atomic weapon, and the reasons why other countries might feel the need to develop a nuclear weapon- with the U.S. and Russia each possessing tens of thousands of thermonuclear weapons.
