TWO VIEWS ON THE OUTCOME OF THE SAMI AL-ARIAN CASE

05/02/06

Norm Gross, the president of Promoting Responsibility in Middle East Reporting (PRIMER) and Peter Erlander, professor at William Mitchell College of Law and past president of the National Lawyer's Guild discussed the outcome of the Al-Arian trial. Gross agreed with Judge Moody that issues not proved during the jury trial were fair game for determining the sentence. While Erlander was critical of the judge's use of issues that had been rejected by the jury. During the listener call-in segment of this program one of Al-Arian's sons, Abdullah called to defend his father, to discuss the judge's sentence, and his family's attitude toward the criminal justice system.
