PLANS FOR AQUACULTURE FIN-FISH FARMING IN THE GULF OF MEXICO

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is taking public comments about plans by a private company to place eight submerged cages, each holding up to 165,000 pounds of live fish, in water located just 33 miles west of St. John's Pass in Pinellas County. Marianne Cufone is an attorney with the Ocean Conservancy in St. Petersburg. She says the idea is fraught with possible danger and that the safety of the project has not been demonstrated.
