Insurance rates would be frozen for Citizens Property customers for 1 year and private insurance companies could buy state-subsidized back up insurance as long as they passed on all of their savings to consumers and dropped rates at least by 25 percent.

Those are just 2 of the ideas included in 6 insurance proposals announced by the Florida House today.  Other ideas include firing the board of directors running Citizens, repealing the Citizens rate increases set to take effect year, and allowing Citizen Policy Holders to make insurance payments on an installment plan.

Governor Charlie Crist says he will unveil his proposals on how to combat the insurance crises tomorrow.

Meanwhile, an advocacy group today announced their proposals for bringing relief to Florida Property owners.

Rick Ben Rubi is the Insurance Chair with the Florida Justice Association, formerly known as the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.   He spoke to WMNF today about their 5 point plan – the first being to empower the office of Public Counsel in Tallahassee to advocate in the Insurance Rate Review  (roll tape#1 o.q.”in the state of Florida”)

That’s West Palm Beach area Attorney Rick Ben Rubi, who’s the Insurance Chair with the Florida Justice Association.  His group released its  point plan to correct the property insurance crises in Florida.
