Congresswoman Kathy Castor speaks about Iraq and Iran by Mitch E. Perry
Iran is rejecting allegations by US officials that it has been supplying weapons to Shia militias in Iraq as ‘baseless propaganda.”
Yesterday, senior U.S. military officials, who refused to be identified, held a news conference in Baghdad where they displayed weapons that they say came from Iran that have been used to kill more than 170 Americans in the past 3 years.
In addition to displaying the ‘explosively formed penetrators, or EFP’s and mortar shells and rocket propelled grenades with visible serial numbers that officials say link the weapons directly to Iranian arms factories, these same officials also said that senior Iranian leaders had authorized the smuggling of weapons into Iraq for use against Americans.
In an interview on Good Morning America today, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinjad said such accusations ‘were excuses to prolong the stay’ of U.S. forces in Iraq.Today WMNF caught up with Tampa area Congresswoman Kathy Castor for her thoughts on the U.S. military’s ‘evidence ‘ about Iranian involvement in Iraq (roll tape# 1 o.q.”further appropriation for the war”) comments powered by Disqus
