Nan Rich on Overturning Gay Adoption Ban by Mitch E. Perry03/15/07
WMNF Drive-Time News Thursday | Listen to this entire show:
Only 3 states in the country prohibit gays from adopting children.
Florida is one of those 3 states.
Yesterday (Wednesday) in Tallahassee, South Florida Democratic State Senator Nan Rich spoke in support of new legislation she is bringing forth that would lift that ban, that first went into effect 30 years ago, led by singer Anita Bryant’s campaign to repeal a Miami Dade County law that banned discrimination against gays. Rich told WMNF why that law needs to be rescinded (roll tape#1 o.q.”interest of the child”)
That’s Nan Rich, a Democratic State Senator who represents Broward and Miami Dade County in the State Legislature. A new group, calling itself the Coalition for Fair Adoption, are supporting Rich’s bill. They include the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Equality Florida and the National Council of Jewish women.
