In April, Gov. Charlie Crist made national headlines when he persuaded the state Clemency Board to lower the barrier for ex-convicts seeking restoration of their civil rights.
During the campaign last year, Crist promised to automatically restore felons’ rights, but that’s not what happened.
The new rule allows for the nearly automatic restoration for most non-violent offenders. But thousands of others still need file paperwork to get their rights restored.
According to Democratic state Sen. Frederica Wilson, the list is even greater than that.
