Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Thursday) | Listen to this entire show:
Bruce Gagnon, coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space will be speaking at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 2470 Nursery Road in Clearwater.
Gagnon is an expert on the rise of the military industrial complex, the ongoing space weapons program and the urgent need to transition our "war economy" into a new paradigm of productivity and peace.
The event is free.
Bruce has been working on space issues for the past 20 years and helped create the Global Network in 1992. He has been named to Helen Caldicott's Nuclear Policy Research Institute Board of Advisors. For 15 years he coordinated the Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice.
Gagnon says, "The only real source of funding for such a sustainable technology revolution in the U.S. is to convert the military industrial complex. We are now spending well over $500 billion a year in a war for control of oil. We are wasting more than $10 billion a month on a illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq. Those tax dollars should be used back here at home to create good jobs doing the things we need to do to ensure our children have a future."
He talked with WMNF about the arms race, the military encirclement of China and Russia, the profits made my the military industry, and creating more trustful relationships with other countries.
