Busansky to challenge Buddy Johnson listen02/07/08 Mitch E. Perry
WMNF Drive-Time News Thursday | Listen to this entire show:
Former Hillsborough County Commissioner Phyllis Busansky today announced her candidacy for Elections Supervisor.
Busansky is the best known opponent that incumbent Buddy Johnson will have faced, if she gets the Democratic nomination. Lee Nelson has previously announced his candidacy.
Busansky lost to Gus Bilirakis in the race to replace Mike Bilirakis in Florida’s 9th Congressional District in November 2006. She’s best known for her reign on the Hillsborough County Commission from 1988 to 1996.
Since being selected by former Gov. Jeb Bush to replace Pam Iorio as Supervisor of Elections five years ago, Buddy Johnson’s tenure has been rocked by several embarrassing stories, including contracting out legal service instead of using the county attorney’s offices, making a childhood friend one of the highest-paid employees in his office, and giving a former employee a $24,000 gag deal.
WMNF spoke with Busansky this afternoon about her candidacy.
