TAMPA SAYS NO TO WAR--IN FRONT OF FOX TV-Andrew Stelzer

03/22/04

Some citizens of Tampa did their part in Saturday’s global day of action—nicknamed “the world still says no to war WMNFS Andrew Stelzer has more. --------------------------------

About 80 people gathered at noon on Saturday in front of WTVT, the local fox news channel. They were there in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of people who rallied around the world against the continuing US war against Iraq.

SOUND

While some of the people came strictly because they believe in peace, others were drawn to the occasion by the fact it was in front of Fox, whose news coverage of the war has been one-sided, according to the protestors.

SOUND

The hour-long rally featured a prayer, some singing, and conversations between people who wouldn’t normally come in contact with each other. Ray Simmons served in the 1st gulf war; he says he was compelled to come out because of what he knows about what’s really happening in Iraq

SOUND

There was no uniformed police presence at the protest. There was a WTVT cameraman present, but WMNF has received no word on whether fox covered the story in that evening’s news.

For WMNF news, I’m Andrew Stelzer
