Scott Wagman on candidacy for St. Pete mayor listen01/22/09 Seán Kinane
WMNF Drive-Time News Thursday | Listen to this entire show:
St. Petersburg will elect a new mayor in November and the race is already becoming crowded. City Council Chair Jamie Bennett, former City Councilman Bill Foster, Amscot Vice President Deveron Gibbons, activist Sharon Russ and retired builder Paul Congemi have already announced their candidacies.
Also in the running is businessman and investor Scott Wagman, the previous owner of Scott Paint.
Wagman has hired political consultant Mitch Kates, who managed the victorious campaigns of three other local politicians who were long-shots to win: state Sen. Charlie Justice, Tampa City Council member Mary Mulhern, and most recently Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner.
WMNF spoke with Wagman at a Suncoast Tiger Bay Club meeting last week and began by asking him about his background.
“I think I’m the one, using my business experience for efficiency and cost-benefit to the taxpayers, can help that go much further down the road.”
The two candidates receiving the most votes in the Sept. 1 primary will face off in the general election on Nov. 3.
