Today, Florida’s Attorney General Bill McCollum formed a working group on mortgage fraud. McCollum met with law enforcement, attorneys, and state officials in Tallahassee to coordinate how they will deal with mortgage fraud.
McCollum says there are about four different kinds of mortgage fraud going on in Florida.
Mark Ober, the elected State Attorney in Hillsborough County, says his office has an economic crime unit that investigates mortgage fraud.
Attorney General Bill McCollum says the first objective of the working group, which will meet again in two weeks, is to better coordinate intake of possible mortgage fraud cases. The second objective is to find a way to educate Floridians better about how to protect themselves against mortgage fraud and where to call for help.
