Book: A baseball star's fall from grace
Major League Baseball begins its regular season this Sunday night, when the world champion Philadelphia Phillies host the Atlanta Braves. The defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays begin their season Monday afternoon in Boston.
Several new books about baseball have just been published, including "The Rocket That Fell to Earth: Roger Clemens and the rage for Baseball Immortality" by Jeff Pearlman. Pearlman examines the life of the former pitching great, whose life came crashing down when he became the biggest name in the special congressional report on steroid use in baseball, published by former U.S. Senator George Mitchell in December 2007. Later Clemens went before Congress to deny that report – he is now being investigated for possibly perjuring himself before Congress.
In the first of a 2 part interview with Jeff Pearlman, we asked him why suggestions of Clemens using steroids were rarely mentioned, unlike other late-career stars like Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds.
We’ll hear the 2nd part of this interview next week on the Evening News.comments powered by Disqus
