On National Trails Day, visitors could get a rare glimpse inside Brooker Creek Preserve's latest addition, the 870-acres of native plants, the Wilde Tract on June 6. The trails at Brooker Creek and Weedon Island won a top national award from the American Trails Association this year.

Twenty-two interpretive and directional signs were unveiled along the nature trails throughout the preserve. Former County Comissioner, Fred Marquis was also honored with a plaque for supporting land acquisition in the preserve. Events included educational programs on bald eagles, stories by Jeff Klinkenberg, a children’s self-guided scavenger hunt, birds from the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, music, silent auctions and more.

The hiking trails at Brooker Creek Preserve in Tarpon Springs are open to the public seven days a week. For more information about the preserve, go to BrookerCreekPreserve.org.
