Baker backs Foster on debate over Rays stadium listen09/10/09 Mitch E. Perry

One of the few significant areas of disagreement between the St. Petersburg Mayoral candidates is baseball, and a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays.
A committee studying the issue last month strongly suggested that the team’s new stadium should be located outside of St. Petersburg.
Bill Foster would be willing to renegotiate to keep the Rays in St. Petersburg. His opponent, Kathleen Ford, says the city's contract with the team is solid through 2027, and there's no need to put tax payers on the hook for a new stadium.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the current Mayor of St. Pete, Rick Baker, who endorsed Bill Foster yesterday, supports Foster’s stance.
We’ll hear more from Baker tomorrow night, on his plans once he leaves the Mayor’s office in a couple of months.
