Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Thursday) | Listen to this entire show:
Good afternoon, welcome to Radioactivity. I’m Rob Lorei. Coming up a look at the realities of the war in Iraq with Washington Post writer- David Finkel. He’s written a new book called The Good Soldiers.
But first some listener comments about yesterday’s program. Yesterday we featured an interview with commentator Jim Hightower. At the end of the program we heard from Tim Curtis- a local organizer with Tampa912- who challenged what Hightower had to say- especially about single payer health insurance. Here’s what many listeners had to say.
Our guest today is David Finkel. He’s the national enterprise editor of the Washington Post. In 2006 he wan the Pulitzer Prize. His new book is called The Good Soldiers and it’s an account of an American battalion which took part in the surge in Iraq in 2007.
One reviewer called it “heart stopping” and that it captures the surreal horror of the war.
David Finkel formerly was a reporter at the St. Petersburg Times and he’ll be one of the speakers at the Times Festival of Reading on Saturday October 24th.
Editor's note: In the open phone segment following the interview with David Finkel, several listeners expressed concerns about the issue of sexual assault in the military. Here are some links:
