Medicare's Open Enrollment for 2010 ends December 31st. Until then Florida seniors with Medicare may select a health plan for their 2010 coverage and can add, drop or change their prescription drug coverage. Seniors should carefully weigh their options because each year the cost and coverage of plans change.
Volunteers with SHINE, Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders, are trained by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs to assist seniors through Medicare open enrollment by comparing plans. Janet Mills is a volunteer Coordinator with Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas, a local partner with SHINE.
If a senior has difficulty understanding options, Mills says someone is available to help.
Mills says seniors can make an appointment for a face-to-face meeting with a volunteer and there are common questions a typical senior has.
To volunteer to help seniors or if you have questions about Medicare open enrollment, call 1-800-96ELDER or click on: SHINE to visit their web-site.
