LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZEN'S CONVENTION - Mitch Perry

The country's oldest and and largest Latino organization is holding their state Convention in Tampa this weekend - and with Latinos being severely courted by both national political parties, the organization's State Director says nearly every politician running for office this year state wide wants to get in on the action.

Lulac - The League of United Latin American Citizens - is holding their State Convention this weekend at the Wyndam Harbor Island Hotel....

And there will be plenty of politicians coming thru, such as U.S. Senate candidates Mel Martinez and Alex Penelas, as well as Congressman Jim Davis and former Gubernatorial candidate Bill McBride.

Anita De Palma is Florida Director of the group - and she says she expects a large turnout. ...She says it's appropriate that Tampa is the host of this year's meeting (roll tape#1 o.q."Hispanic Community here..")

As has been frequently reported, Latinos are one of the most desired bloc of voters that both parties are courting this year...And Tampa is considered as fertile territory for that vote as anywhere in the state...Earlier today, Republican National Chairman Ed Gilispie visited the West Tampa , at the cuban coffee shop La Teresita, while Democratic National Chair Terry McAuliff spoke in North Tampa...

There are several national groups trying to register Latinos, like the group Mi Familia.....

And last week, an emissary from the Puerto Rican Government came to Ybor City...
