Changing the face of homelessness03/11/10 Robert Lorei
Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Thursday) | Listen to this entire show:
Good afternoon, welcome to Radioactivity. I'm Robert Lorei. Coming up we'll hear about efforts to change the stereotype of who is homeless and we'll also hear from a physician who is part of a group that would like to outlaw nuclear weapons. But first, some listener comments about yesterday's interview with Pinellas County Commissioner Susan Latvala about proposed budget cuts in Pinellas County.
The Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County has started a campaign to change the perception of who is homeless. They say the stereotype of a single man with an addiction is a small part of the homeless population. Many homeless people are the working poor, battered women and children.
We're joined now by three members of the coalition- Tracey Crocker is a formerly homeless woman who is now with Americorps/Vista; Lesa Weikel is Community Relations Manager at the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County; and Margaret Djekovic is with Americorps/Vista.
