From A Woman's Point of View

Mascha Poppenk, one of the director/producers of the film GROWN IN DETROIT, talks about the reasons and background for the making of this film. This film chronicles one of the most devastated neighborhoods in Detroit by following the students and the teachers of the Catherine Ferguson Academy. Each of the students is either pregnant or the mother of a young child; but in addition to their studies, they are also farmers growing fruits and vegetables and learning the business of agriculture. They are also learning much more and we watch them blossoming in hearts and minds. The film is part of the sarasotafilmfestival.com and will be shown Saturday, April 10th at 3:30pm and Sunday, April 11the 8:30 pm at the Hollywood 20 in Sarasota. www.grownindetroit.tv
