Grasyson introduces "War is Making You Poor" Act on House Floor
You just heard about the supplemental war spending bill and Democratic Orlando-area US Representative Alan Grayson’s “War is Making You Poor” Act. While some say the bill has no chance of passing, it does have bipartisan support. Friday Grayson said what the “War is Making you Poor” Act would do.
He said the 90% of the supplemental spending bill would go directly to taxpayers.
The rest of the money, Grayson said, would go toward shrinking the federal debt.
During his speech, Grayson pointed to a colorful pie chart comparing the US’s military spending to that of other countries. There are some striking discrepancies, he said.
He stopped short of saying the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan need to end.
Grayson wrote last week that the US has been at war pretty much since World War Two, and it is so common these days that no one even notices it anymore. Among supporters if the “War is Making You Poor” Act are Representatives Ron Paul and Walter Jones, Republicans from Texas and North Carolina, respectively. Congressman Dennis Kucinich also supports the measure.comments powered by Disqus
