Sarasota negotiates new franchise agreement with FP&L
08/17/10 Robert LoreiRadioactivity: Live Call-In (Tuesday) | Listen to this entire show:
The city of Sarasota and Florida Power and Light are re-negotiating the electric company’s 30 year franchise agreement- the agreement that gives the for-profit company the right to be Sarasota’s electric monopoly.
Some environmentalists and public officials want FP&L to provide more electricity from sustainable sources; they also want a shorter agreement and removal of power poles that interfere with bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
We’re joined now by two of those people- Kerry Kirschner is the Mayor of Sarasota, and Susan Nilon is president of a group called Sarasota Power.
Kerry Kirschner is mayor of Sarasota; Susan Nilon is President of SarasotaPower.org
