Funding for Historic Districts - Grace Santos

The City of Tampa’s Advisory Committee met Wednesday to discuss the Interstate Historic Preservation Trust Fund. WMNF’s Grace Santos was there and files this report.

ORLANDO'S TEEN CURFEW-Andrew Stelzer

As we reported last night, starting this past Thursday teenagers are no longer be allowed in Ybor city after 11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Tampa tried instituting a similar citywide curfew 2 years ago, but it was ruled unconstitutional, because it covered the entire city and was too broad. TAMPA POLICE ON YBOR CURFEW-Andrew Stelzer

As we reported yesterday, the teen curfew for Ybor city took effect this past Thursday night. People under 18 are not permitted from being in the so-called entertainment district, between 11pm and 4am Thursday through Saturday nights. Today, WMNF spoke to Laura McElroy, with the Tampa police department.

HOMELESS PERSONS MEMORIAL DAY-Andrew Stelzer

Tonight is the longest night of the year, the winter solstice---to coincide wit the long night, today is national Homeless persons Memorial Day. Citizens around the country held memorial services to remember the thousands of homeless people who die every year in the United States. Rayme Knuckles works at the Hillsborough county Homeless Coalition, he helped organize a ceremony across from the County center in Downtown Tampa this afternoon.

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS - Jen Germaine

New statistics released yesterday from the National Low Imcome Housing Coalition, stated home ownership, or renting a single or two bedroom apartment, is financially out of reach for low-income families in the United States. Today Tanya Pickle, working with St Petersburg Neighborhood Housing Services, completed a two year process to sign the morgage on her new home. For WMNF Jen Germaine reporting.

EPC SUES CLEARCHANNEL-Andrew Stelzer

The Hillsborough county environmental protection commission has filed a lawsuit against clear channel entertainment and the Florida state fair to stop all concerts at the Amphitheatre at the Florida state fairgrounds. The suit is a reaction to 37 violations of noise standards during concerts, culminating with a show by the rock group Korn, that received over 60 complaints. Rick Tchantz is a lawyer with the county EPC.

In 1976, Tommy Ziegler was sentenced to death for the killing of his wife, in-laws, and a customer on Christmas Eve in Winter Garden, Florida. But in the last few years, DNA and blood evidence has emerged which indicates Ziegler’s’ innocence. YBOR YOUTH ON YBOR CURFEW-Andrew Stelzer

This weekend was the first time the new teen curfew was enforced in Ybor city.

WMNF went to the neighborhood east of the curfew zone, to find out how those people most effected by the curfew felt. First WMNF spoke to a group of kids between 9 and 13 years old, who live in the neighborhood east of Ybor city, SOUND
