Protesters gathered Friday in front of Congressman Bill Young’s office in Seminole in support of Planned Parenthood. The protest was in response to Young’s vote to de-fund the organization.

President Obama requested $327 million in Title X money, a budget that funds agencies supporting sex education and women's healthcare. Today, Governor Charlie Crist vetoed a controversial bill that would have required women seeking an abortion to pay for an ultrasound.

On Twitter, the state’s Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink said “I commend the veto of 1143, the ultrasound bill - Governor Crist did the right thing.” U.S. Representative Kendrick Meek, State Senator Dan Gelber, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida also applauded Crist’s veto.

This morning, Florida’s senior Senator, Democrat Bill Nelson, predicted that the House and Senate will be able to combine their versions of the major health care reform bill and that it will be signed by President Barack Obama in the next few weeks.

Nelson says that neither a severe abortion restriction nor a proposed public health insurance option that were included in the House version are likely to make it into the final version of the bill.

Mobile abortion billboard goes through Tampa listen

If you were driving in downtown Tampa at midday today, you might have seen a billboard truck with graphic depictions of abortions.

The mobile billboards are an initiative from Southern California-based pro life group the Center for Bio Ethical Reform.

Mark Harrington, executive director of that group, described what motorists who encounter his truck would see.
