The Stranger sits in on the Saturday Soiree to share James Brown's entire legendary 1962 performance, plus some rare nuggets from the opening acts.

James Brown and The Famous Flames recorded this electrifying performance at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, at his own expense. Brown's record label opposed the LP, believing that a live album featuring no new songs would not be profitable.

Under pressure from Brown and his manager, the King Records label reluctantly released the LP the following year. It spent 66 weeks at the top of the charts. Live At The Apollo is considered one of the all-time classic R&B albums.
