Tribe of Heart Filmmakers LeVack & Stein on "Talking Animals"
My guests on "Talking Animals" Jan. 16 will be James LaVeck and Jenny Stein , founders of Tribe of Heart, a multifaceted non-profit charitable organization best known for making award-winning documentaries.
Those films include “Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home,” which tells several stories of farmers who are reassessing--and changing--their relationship to animals. The storytelling widens out to encompass the sagas of two additional people and their notable experiences with two different animal rescues.
Another of Tribe of Heart’s movies is “The Witness,” which chronicles the tale of a rugged Brooklyn construction worker with a fear of animals who transforms into an inveterate animal rescuer and advocate. This film, too, has won numerous awards.
LaVeck and Stein served as chief filmmakers on both of these documentaries.
While we’ll surely touch on the history, evolution and mission of Tribe of Heart, the films, etc., I also hope to frame part of the discussion around filmmaking as activism, as a catalyst for change on both the societal and individual levels.
James LaVeck and Jenny Stein will speak with us live on "Talking Animals" on Jan. 16 at 11am, and listeners are invited to participate in the conversation by calling (813-239-9663) or e-mailing (DJ@wmnf.org).
