THE ISRAELI PEACE MOVEMENT

05/07/02

Neve Gordon teaches politics at Ben-Gurion University in Jerusalem. He is a leading Israeli peace activist and organizer of rallies and humanitarian missions. Gordon says that both the American and Israeli media ignore or prevent news about the peace movement from getting out; that anti-Arab racism is on the rise in Israel; and that there is a strong movement of Israelis and Palestinians calling for dialogue and a peaceful resolution of the current conflict. Gordon also called the current war "The War of the Settlements," because he believes the settlers are in control of Israeli military policy, that they will never agree to have their settlements dismantled and that Prime Minister Sharon backs the settlers completely.
