A week from Saturday, a Youth Crime Prevention event called "Don't Do It" will be held in Tampa’s Copeland Park.

"Don’t Do It" is being sponsored by officials with the Ministry of Spirit and Truth International in Tampa.

Gregory Lockett is a homeless advocate who now works for the Church. Lockett says it’s critically important for adults to be able to educate young people about life’s challenges before they succumb to their emotions and end up in trouble.

Bishop Saughhanto Austin from the Ministry of Spirit and Truth International says that though he and Greg Lockett are African-American, the event, their church and their message is multicultural.

Lockett said he came up with the idea while at the Jim Walters Community Leadership Development Program, which is based on the USF campus. He then came to Bishop Austin with it. The two men say they plan extensive follow-up from their event on Dec. 1.

The “Don’t Do It! Youth Crime Prevention event is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Copeland Park in Tampa. For more information, call Greg Lockett at (813) 531-6940.
