The Ruby Paine Controversy02/17/10 Robert Lorei
Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Wednesday) | Listen to this entire show:
In this segment retired educator Marilyn Williams is here to talk about the kinds of training some local school districts are giving to teachers. The training involves the writings of Ruby Paine who, according to Williams, has been hired by some local school districts to do diversity training for teachers. Paine's work has been endorsed by the Florida Department of Education. But Williams is concerned that the training "reinforces stereotypes" of low income students of color. Williams also says that "many teachers are left with low expectations regarding the ability of poor children to learn." Williams will be taking part in a town hall meeting on the topic this Saturday at the Lee Davis Neighborhood Center at 9AM and she joins us now.
