People furious with George Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict protested on both sides of Tampa Bay Sunday.

About fifty activists chanted and held signs on the four corners of a busy South St. Petersburg intersection early in the afternoon.

And a few hours later nearly 200 marched from downtown Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park to the Federal Courthouse and back.

More than 2 million children in Florida are enrolled in the Florida KidCare Program, but it’s estimated that 35,000 qualifying children in the Tampa Bay area remain uninsured.

This Saturday is the official start of hurricane season. It’s also the unofficial beginning of the rainy season in Florida and when some local fertilizer restrictions go into effect.

Beginning June 1, residents of Pinellas and Manatee counties and the City of Tampa can’t apply phosphorous or nitrogen to their lawns.

The Hillsborough County Regional Transit Authority, or HART, kicked off its first day of Express Bus service Tuesday along the Nebraska Avenue corridor. MetroRapid uses GPS technology for traffic signal priority and limited bus stops to get riders to their destination as much as 15% faster – and uses brand new buses.

On Tuesday the Hillsborough Area Regional Transportation Authority will begin its MetroRapid north-south bus service.

It runs from downtown Tampa to the university area transit center every 15 minutes along the busy Nebraska Avenue corridor.

From there it continues every 30 minutes to a park-and-ride lot in north Tampa near Fletcher and Interstate-75.

For the first two weeks MetroRapid will be free. Thereafter it will be the same cost as regular fare.
